When Do You Need Emergency Eye Care?
It is important to see an eye doctor right away if you are experiencing acute eye issues. Emergency eye problems can range from mild to severe and escalate quickly. As such, it is a good idea to see an eye doctor sooner rather than later in these situations. Neglecting to seek out emergency eye care may lead to serious or potentially permanent consequences for your eyes.
Call our office right away if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
- Eye discharge
- Sudden change in vision
- Loss of vision, double vision, or blurry vision
- Irregular eye movement
- Itchy, red, or bloodshot eyes
- Extreme sensitivity to light
- Burning or stinging sensation in the eyes
- Bruising or bleeding around the eyes
Contributing factors to these issues can include eye infections, damage to the retina, or having an object stuck in your eye. Because some problems can be contagious or get worse as time goes on, it is important to seek care right away.
Take these steps to avoid making the problem worse while you wait to see an emergency eye doctor:
- Wash your hands to help avoid spreading infection.
- Do not try to remove something stuck in your eye.
- Avoid touching your eyes, which can cause increased irritation.
- Do not drive or operate machinery if your vision is impaired.

Depending on the type of emergency, this exam may involve specialized tests for accurate diagnosis. Once your doctor has a better idea of the issue at hand, they will develop a treatment plan. This plan may include eye drops or other remedies to promote your recovery. Many eye issues resolve quickly with proper care and attention. Your doctor will equip you with what you need for optimal healing.

What is Myopia Control?
Various forms of myopia control help slow or stop the progression of myopia, preventing nearsightedness from getting worse. One form of myopia control treatment is available through MiSight® contacts, the first and only soft contact lenses that are FDA approved to slow the progression of myopia in children age 8-12 at the start of treatment. Approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) means that the lenses have been tested over a long period and have met all the safety requirements established.
At Accent Vision Care, we are certified providers of MiSight®1 Day contact lenses. This form of myopia management is safe and proven to be effective. Kids ages 8-12 wearing MiSight® 1-day contact lenses experienced an average of 59 percent reduction of myopia progression when used over three years.²
